Definition
Quota attainment is the percentage of a sales quota that a rep or team achieves in a given period, usually a month, quarter, or year. The formula is (actual sales ÷ quota) × 100. A rep who closes $80,000 against a $100,000 quota has 80% attainment.
For RevOps and FP&A teams, attainment shows whether the quotas set during sales planning were realistic. Attainment above 100% often triggers accelerator commissions, which ties the metric directly to compensation planning. Attainment is an output metric, while pipeline coverage is a forward-looking ratio of pipeline to quota.
At team level, a common view is the share of reps who hit quota. Consistently very high attainment across the whole team can signal quotas set too low. Broadly low attainment usually points to a quota-setting or capacity problem rather than a rep performance problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is quota attainment calculated?
Divide actual sales by the quota for the period, then multiply by 100. For example, $80,000 closed against a $100,000 quota is 80% attainment.
What's the difference between quota attainment and pipeline coverage?
Quota attainment measures the share of quota a rep or team actually closed in a period. Pipeline coverage is a forward-looking ratio of pipeline to quota that shows whether there's enough pipeline to reach the number.
What does quota attainment over 100% mean?
It means the rep or team closed more than its quota for the period, which often triggers accelerator commissions in the compensation plan. If nearly the whole team is consistently far above 100%, quotas may be set too low.
